Vinette Brown
Board Member

Vinette Brown is currently the Associate Director of Resource Development for the NGO Family Health International (FHI) where she manages the team responsible for funding and developing FHIÕs healthcare programs in 70 countries around the world. She was formerly the Associate Director of Development for Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, where she spent four years working to increase the number of investors and partners, and the fundraising capability of Ashoka’s staff across the globe. Most recently she worked with the Academy for Educational Development (AED) where she wrote and edited project publications, reports and workplans for the USAID-funded Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance (FANTA) Project, conducted a process evaluation of two HIV/AIDS youth education projects for the Health Communication Partnership (HCP) Project, and researched best practices in reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programs to be included in a Compendium of Best Practices for the Advance Africa Project. Vinette is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and spent two years in Haiti as an Agricultural Extension Volunteer. She has a B.A. in International Relations from Boston University, a M.A. in International Development Studies, with concentrations in Development Management and International Education, from the George Washington University, and speaks Haitian French Creole and Spanish. Vinette emigrated from Jamaica as a child and grew up in South Central Los Angeles, CA.



Dan Cohen
Board Member

Dan is the Co-CEO, CFO, and Co-Founder of PressPass, Inc., an Internet-based start-up that produces sports-related behind-the-scenes video content that focuses on athletes off the field and away from the action. For the three years before PressPass, Dan ran his own business, integrating his diverse skill-set to focus on solving a wide range of client needs. Services ranged from Executive Search to strategic planning and consulting for startup companies.

Dan holds a BA in Fine Arts from Amherst College, where he won two grants for art production and was a member of the MenÕs Soccer Team. He has run his own equity portfolio for the last 12 years (without hurting himself too much) and has a long-standing interest in the quality of financial education. Dan also sits on the Board of Trustees of the Queens Museum of Art where his role is developmental in nature, trying grow local community interest the Museum.



Joseph Firschein
Board Member

Joseph Firschein is a Director of Fannie Mae’s Community Lending Group that provides financing to support affordable housing development. Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Joseph served as Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Program Manager at the U.S. Treasury Department CDFI Fund where he managed the Fund's largest financing program and administered the Fund's national CDFI certification program. Before joining the CDFI Fund, he served as lead community development analyst at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Housing Branch.

In addition to his finance experience, he has also served as a senior manager at America Online where he managed the development and marketing of AOL’s broadband products. Together with his wife Rachel, he is actively involved as a volunteer with a number of Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organizations. Joseph has an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland, Robert H. Smith School of Business; a Masters in Public Policy (MPP) from the University of California, Berkeley, Goldman School of Public Policy; and a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University.



Jonathan Kivell
Founder and Chairman of the Board

Jonathan recently completed a master's degree in public policy at Georgetown University where he focused his studies on finance-related issues in low- and moderate-income areas in the United States. He has worked as a Program Associate for Wall Street Without Walls, a team of financial technical assistance providers for community lenders and affordable housing developers. He is a winner of the 2006 Applied Consumer Economics award from the American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI) for a paper he co-wrote with Dr. Jeanne Hogarth and Marianne Hilgert of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Originally from Great Neck, NY, Jonathan earned a B.S. cum laude from Cornell University.



Elizabeth Hack
Board Member

Elizabeth Hack, a partner in McDermott Will & Emery's Washington, DC office, practices in the Firm's national Health Care and Litigation groups. Elizabeth represents pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, and health care systems in federal and state court litigation, government investigations and compliance matters. Since joining the firm Elizabeth has been lead counsel representing multinational pharmaceutical manufacturers in investigations and litigation across the country. Elizabeth also provides advice to employers on a variety of civil rights issues, including ADA public access, sexual harassment, and employment discrimination. Prior to joining Sonnenschein Elizabeth was an attorney in the Civil Rights Division and Civil Frauds Section of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Elizabeth Hack earned her B.A. from SUNY Stony Brook, and her J.D. from The George Washington University.



Marci Rose Levine
Board Member

Marci Rose Levine is a Partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, a law firm with more than 700 lawyers in 10 U.S. offices. Marci practices in the Firm's national Health Care Group, and has extensive corporate experience representing a broad range of health care organizations, including hospitals and health systems, physician practices, managed care organizations, trade associations, and pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. Ms. Levine also provides counsel to private equity firms, venture capitalists, and other organizations in the financial services sector who are investing in the health care industry. In addition to her work in health care, Marci also counsels a number of charitable, nonprofit organizations regarding various corporate, operational and tax-exemption issues.

Marci received her B.A. in Political Science from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and her law degree from The George Washington University.



Thomas B. Mayrhofer
Board Member


Thomas B. Mayrhofer is a Vice President of The Carlyle Group, one of the world's premier Private Equity investment firms with over $50 billion under management. Mr. Mayrhofer is based in Washington DC, Carlyle's worldwide headquarters. During his time at Carlyle, Mr. Mayrhofer has had a number of responsibilities, including serving as the CFO of Carlyle's Asian investment fund operations. In this capacity Mr. Mayrhofer traveled extensively throughout Asia which included spending a significant amount of time in China and India during the period from 2000 Š 2004 while each of those countries emerged as global economic powers.

Subsequent to his role with Carlyle's Asian operations, Mr. Mayrhofer worked closely on the operational execution of Carlyle's acquisition of Hawaiian Telcom, the incumbent local exchange carrier in the State of Hawaii, which provides telephone and other telecommunications services to approximately 700,000 residents of the Hawaiian Islands. Mr. Mayrhofer is currently responsible for Corporate Finance activities within Carlyle and works closely with Carlyle's executive management team evaluating opportunities in the rapidly changing landscape of the private equity industry.

Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Mayrhofer worked at Arthur Andersen LLP for five years in the Real Estate and Hospitality Group and graduated from the College of William and Mary with a B.B.A. in accounting in 1995. He is a CPA and a CFA Charterholder.



David Platte
Founding Board Member and Corporate Treasurer

David brings ECP a broad range of leadership and management experience in various fields, including finance, military and civilian aviation, telecommunications, and business management consulting. He is currently a Client Executive with Ventera Corporation's Financial Services Business Unit. He also serves in the Navy Reserve as the Reserve Air Operations Center Director of Plans for the Second Fleet Joint Forces Air Component Commander.

David earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages (German, Russian, and Mandarin Chinese) and Anthropology (Mesoamerican Archaeology) from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. He holds a Master of Science degree in Business Finance and an MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business as well as a Master of Science degree in Information Systems Management from The George Washington University.



Keith B. Robinson
Board Member

Keith brings a diverse background in organizational and process improvement in manufacturing and service organizations, such as glass, lead-acid battery, and electronic manufacturing along with government contracting and consulting services. He currently is a senior facilitator for process improvements within Lockheed Martin. Keith has a history in youth monitoring and tutoring in mathematics and looks forward to supporting the objectives of ECP.

Keith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from Rochester Institute of Technology. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Technical Management from Johns Hopkins University.



Jeremy Williams
Board Member

Jeremy is the Finance Manager of the District of Columbia Public Charter School Board where he manages the board's finances, provides financial oversight to the District's charter schools, and liaises with city officials on school funding matters. Jeremy is also Co-Founder and Principal Strategist of Gemini Investment Strategists, LLC, a Limited Liability Company established to provide financial and investment management services to individuals and institutions in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Prior to his current functions, Jeremy was Project Manager in the Power Systems Division of Florida Power and Light, Inc.

Jeremy holds an MBA from University of Virginia, Darden Graduate School of Business as well as a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Florida A&M University. Jeremy is also a candidate for the Certified Financial Planner/Chartered Financial Consultant designations.

Website Manager / Designer

Yoni Frenkel is an undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Accounting at Binghamton University. Aside from establishing ECP's online presence he does professional web design for various entities including universities, ad agencies, small businesses, and several Binghamton University organizations. In the last few years he has interned with Raymond James Financial and at Morgan Stanley within their Global Wealth Management division. This summer he will be working in New York City as an intern for Ernst and Young in their Structured Finance Advisory Services group.

Originally from Russia, Yoni lived in Israel for five years, and currently resides in Great Neck, NY.



Anna Levy
Program Director

Anna Levy graduated from Binghamton University in 2006, earning a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Law as well as a minor in International Studies. Before taking the position as ECPÕs Program Director, Anna served ECP part-time as Program Manager in addition to a full-time Fellowship with PANIM. While at PANIM, she assisted in the implementation of seminars promoting civic engagement, researched U.S. health care policy, and planned and staffed a pilot program to a Navajo Reservation in the American Southwest. Anna has also led adult adventure tours in Israel. During the summer of 2004, Anna spent time in Ghana and Ukraine working on community development and research projects. In 2005, she studied abroad in Spain and following her return home, Anna began translating for medical examinations in Stamford, CT, and for legal services of clients experiencing labor-rights violations in Washington, DC. From 2001-2006, Anna spent summers and winters in Stamford, CT working as an administrative assistant at the Stamford Ear, Nose, and Throat Center.



Tim Silman
Resources Development Specialist

Tim recently completed his master's degree in Public Policy at Georgetown University, where he concentrated in Social Welfare and Education policy. Currently, Tim is a Research Analyst at Mathematica Policy Research in Washington, D.C., where he is working on a number of program evaluations in the areas of relationship education and teacher incentive programs. Prior to joining MPR, Tim was a Domestic Policy Fellow at Third Way, and a Research Assistant at Georgetown University. Tim graduated magna cum laude from the University of Vermont with degrees in Economics and Sociology.
